Patrol Boardshort / Partnership with LA County Lifeguards

Making boardshorts for the LA County Lifeguards was high on my list of things to accomplish during my time at HippyTree. It took years and numerous meetings to get our foot in the door, but what set us apart from competing brands was our willingness to work closely with lifeguards in making a boardshort specifically designed for ocean rescues. We transformed a standard performance surf trunk into a life saving uniform by adding features like a back hip pocket for holding a 2-way radio and designing a dual closure side pocket to keep tools and valuables safe and secure.

My role for this project was Design Director and Project Manager. I carried out all communication with the LA Lifeguards along with directing the apparel design, overseeing product development and marketing.
